Okay, so where should we begin? It’s pretty safe to say that everybody has heard of marijuana or cannabis. What may not be such a common term is CBD oil, which is cannabidiol oil. New research shows that it has medicinal purposes and can be very effective in treating a myriad of aliments. Because of its controversial nature and some confusion as to what it is and does, it hasn’t been made public. Until Now.
So what is it? It’s one of the many compounds found in cannabis and researchers are learning about the potential for it to be used medicinally. There are a variety of oils and they can vary in potency. The ones that contain CBD in any concentration are known as CBD oils. However, don’t expect to get a “high” from it since it doesn’t contain tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. There will be some effects but nothing like what one might get from marijuana, which contains THC.
Why is it taking center stage now? There has always been so much focus on marijuana CBD oil has shown great potential in treating ailments like inflammation, depression, psychosis, and several other ailments. It’s most popular form to be consumed is in oil. Medical cannabis oil, which comes from cannabis with a higher potency of CBD, has been administered to people with more chronic ailments like cancer and epilepsy with great results.
When thinking about CBD it might be assumed that because it comes from cannabis it certainly wouldn’t be safe for children. Let me explain why that isn’t so. In cases where children have autism CBD oil has shown to improve hypersensitivity to smells, noises, and even physical sensations, again with promising results. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD, is a disorder that expressed through hyperactivity, distractibility, and impulsivity and more than one in 10 children will be diagnosed with it, a number that is constantly rising. Currently ADHD is treated with Ritalin, Adderall, and Concerta. All three are molecularly similar to cocaine and methamphetamine. There have been cases of parents reluctantly giving their children CBD oil because they wanted to avoid the addiction aspect that is often associated with cannabis products. Not only was there no addiction but there also were no negative side effects like the ones that often accompany Ritalin, which can cause withdrawal.
The limits to what can be accomplished with CBD are established by mankind’s own unwillingness to expand their thinking about its potential to do great things. We can debate the “what ifs” from now until forever but what about the people who are already benefiting from CBD oil? Their results speak for themselves, adults and children alike the world over.
Innovative, not traditional thinking and actions are what we need more of. It is time to put things and practices aside that may work but are harmful for our families and us. Question why things are the way they are and get answers for yourself.
