Cannabis In Florida

Florida Amendment 2 was passed by 71% of voters last year. Most recently, Governor Scott signed a bill officially implementing the amendment that puts a new set of rules into law. Orlando Marijuana Doctor at Green Star Medical Clinics is treating patients in Seminole County, Volusia county, Orange County and out to Lake County. With the passing of Senate Bill 8A, patients are getting their alternative cannabis medication much faster. Originally, patients had to wait a 90-day period from the initial visit with a licensed cannabis physician to receive an order for FL medical marijuana. The new laws in effect ELIMINATED the 90 days and expanded the list of qualifying medical conditions. The bill also requires that all qualified patients have access to all types of medical cannabis, such as, CBD, low-THC, full-strength THC marijuana, and marijuana delivery devices to all qualified patients registered within the state of Florida. Full-strength marijuana is officially legal upon a recommendation by a licensed marijuana doctor in the state of Florida. However, the majority of residents in Florida are not aware of what it entails to initiate ones FL Medical Cannabis Evaluation process. Orlando Marijuana Doctor guides you every step of the way.

How to get a FL Medical Marijuana I.D. Card?  You must be a resident of Florida, have a valid Florida I.D., be at least 18 years or older, and have a diagnosis with a qualifying condition.  Conditions include: HIV/AIDS, PTSD, Cancer, Epilepsy, Crohn’s Disease, chronic muscle spasms, seizures, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Glaucoma and/or chronic nonmalignant pain.  You must have proof from your established doctor or doctors that you have one or more of these conditions.  With the elimination of the 90-day waiting period, patients now have the opulence of knowing whether or not they qualify with just one doctor’s visit. Although there are only ten conditions listed, the state Constitution gives doctors the authority to certify patients who are suffering from “medical conditions of the same kind or class” for which the doctor believes the benefits to the patient would outweigh the risks. Unlike opiates and other prescription pain medications, it is highly unlikely you will overdose while taking cannabis and there have not been any results of deaths where cannabis is considered the primary contributing factor. This puts less risk on licensed FL medical marijuana physicians, making it easier for them to recommend a medical marijuana treatment plan to patients for a wide variety of illnesses.

Upon patient qualification and doctor recommendation, a treatment plan is developed by a FL medical marijuana doctor to combat their medical condition. The doctor will recommend either products that possess tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and/or products that possess cannabidiol (CBD). THC is notorious for the psychoactive or “high” effect it causes once it’s active in an individual’s system. CBD on the other hand does not possess the psychoactive effect, but it has the potential to assist with anxiety, inflammation, pain, and spasms to name a few. CBD strains are popular among patients suffering from epilepsy, body pains, muscle spasms, anxiety and PTSD(post traumatic stress disorder) because the CBD strains produce a state of relaxation without psychoactive effects. High-THC or full-strength strains are categorized as either indica, sativa or a Hybrid. Indica strains are sedating and better for dealing with pain while sleeping. Many may consider indica the best strain for unbearable chronic pain. While Sativa strains provide an uplifting energetic feeling, it is preferred by those dealing with severe pain on a day to day basis as well as those dealing with debilitating depression. Many Florida doctors recommend patients to administer CBD during the active portions of their day and THC during their not so active portions.

The list of benefits that result in choosing medical marijuana as a treatment option are endless. Opioids, stimulants, and over the counter medications that are being administered throughout the state can result in severe side effects which sometimes can be fatal, along with a high potential to be addictive. Marijuana hasn’t been a lead contributor to a single death nor does it ever become addictive. Medical Cannabis is a safer alternative for the pain management. Quoting from a premier Fl medical marijuana dispensary, “Glaucoma, a qualifying condition, causes people to develop blindness. When treated with marijuana the ocular pressure in the eyes decreases and nerve damage decreases. Our products are designed to alleviate seizures, severe and persistent muscle spasms, pain, nausea, loss of appetite, and other symptoms associated with serious medical conditions such as cancer.”

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Statistics, in 2015, heroin, Fentanyl and Oxycontin were directly responsible for the deaths of 3,896 Floridians. Utilizing Medical Cannabis as an organic alternative can assist with decreasing the number of deaths caused by opioids, stimulants, and street drugs throughout the state.
